Preface

We declare that the human being is not merely a biological organism, but a living universe that feels its existence and connects with the world through breath. Modern civilization has advanced in technology and information, yet its understanding of the human being remains fragmented, superficial, and mechanical. We therefore recognize the need to redefine the human being and to establish new standards for life, consciousness, body, existence, and civilization. This charter seeks to restore the original role that humanity has forgotten, and offers new civilizational standards fitting for the Age of Breath.

Ⅱ

A Declaration on the Human Being

  1. 01Before thought, the human being is breath; before action, being; before function, life.
  2. 02The human body is not merely tissue and organs, but a living form in which consciousness dwells and expands.
  3. 03Breath is not only a physiological process for circulating oxygen, but the first language of connection that joins body, mind, consciousness, environment, and cosmos into one.
  4. 04The human being is not completed by external authority or doctrine, but awakens by themselves through their own breath.

Ⅲ

Principles of Embodied Humanism

  1. Wholeness — Body, mind, consciousness, environment, cosmos, and life are a single phenomenon that cannot be separated.
  2. Autonomy — Growth and awakening begin not from coercion, but from each person’s own rhythm and inner need.
  3. Coexistence — The human being is a living creature who lives in relationship with nature, with other people, with technology and AI, and with future beings not yet born. The more harmonious these relationships, the more mature civilization becomes.
  4. Living intelligence — True wisdom comes not from the accumulation of knowledge, but from awareness experienced through breath and body.
  5. Evolution — The human being is not a finished being but an ongoing process of awakening, and that process itself is humanity.

Ⅳ

Standards for Living

Embodied Humanism is not a religion, a form of worship, or a set of duties. This charter is a way of life, practiced through the following attitudes.

  • Natural breathing, not forced practice
  • Self-understanding, not comparison
  • Awareness and respect, not conformity
  • Experience and presence (現存), not knowledge
  • Living change, not perfection

Ⅴ

Pledge

I honor my breath, understand my body, and wholly accept my being. Through breath I connect myself with the world, and I pledge to live so that the coming civilization may be an age not of domination but of coexistence, not of consumption but of awareness, not of disconnection but of connection.

Ⅵ

Closing Words

Embodied Humanism is not a new ideology, but the return of a forgotten humanity. Breath is the door that opens this return, and this charter is the first sentence of that civilization.

Declaration

This charter is the philosophical foundation of SOOM Civilization, and is formally declared as a new human standard for living in the coming Age of Breath.
